As hemp research is at an all-time high, all kinds of new cannabinoids are getting discovered that offer a one-of-a-kind experience complete with various properties that can truly be valuable to our daily lives.  One of the latest cannabinoids to hit the market is hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), which may act as a gamechanger, especially for anyone seeking out the properties of delta 9 THC but aren’t able to access them based on where they live.

Hexahydrocannabinol is certainly a worthwhile derivative of the hemp plant but given its distinctive properties – primarily the psychoactive effects that it possesses – it’s important to know what can be expected after taking it.  Why?  In order to have a clear understanding of whether or not it’s a cannabinoid that can be useful in your day-to-day life.

What is HHC Exactly?

Hexahydrocannabinol is a minor cannabinoid in the hemp plant, which is unique in that it’s found in the plant’s seeds and pollen, while most cannabinoids exist exclusively in the flowering buds of the hemp plant.  And, that’s not all that makes HHC stand out from the pack.  HHC is a hydrogenated form of delta 9 THC, so it takes on new properties due to its interaction with hydrogen.  This hydrogenation process, interestingly, gives HHC a level of chemical stability that surpasses other cannabinoids in the plant.  This is more important than most realize, because it means that it may be far more bioavailable than what we’re used to as other cannabinoids may be slightly destabilized through the various processing methods that we use to create cannabinoid-based products.

For the time-being, we can’t offer much information about the discovery of hexahydrocannabinol.  We know that it was recent, although interestingly, scientists have been making synthesized hydrogenated forms of cannabinoids for decades due to their enhanced stability.  HHC is a natural compound, but we don’t know how much of it exists in the hemp plant for the time-being.

Will HHC Get Me High?

The short answer is yes, because hexahydrocannabinol is an intoxicating cannabinoid.  Meaning, it acts as a CB1 agonist, triggering the same cannabinoid receptors associated with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that induce the psychoactive response.

So, how high can you get from taking HHC?

As of now, it appears that its potency in terms of intoxicating effects is very similar to that of delta 9 THC – maybe only slightly milder.  For reference, it seems to be more intoxicating than delta 8 THC as well as delta 10 THC.  Expect to get pretty high then from taking it.

What’s fascinating is that those who take HHC commonly report that the high feels just like the high they get from delta 9.  This means that it affects mental clarity in a similar manner, being more disruptive to alertness than delta 8 or delta 10.  And, many describe strong feelings of euphoria as well as bliss within the mind, paired with a mellowing body high that can be quite soothing.

It’s important to be mindful of the fact that hexahydrocannabinol has a chance of causing a failed drug test.  THC compounds are broken down by THC-COOH, a metabolite that shows up in the urine.  Drug tests are seeking out THC-COOH.  While HHC is structurally different from THC-based compounds, we don’t yet know exactly how it is metabolized, so please take it cautiously if you are someone who is drug-tested regularly.

What are the Properties of HHC?

As of now, there have been no clinical studies done to observe the non-intoxicating effects of hexahydrocannabinol.  In other words, we don’t have evidence-based research on any of its properties, like we do with other cannabinoids that have been around for longer.  Because HHC is so new, researchers just haven’t had time to analyze the cannabinoid yet.

But, what we can do is compare it to delta 9 THC, since the effects are reported to be quite similar.  Due to hexahydrocannabinol being so structurally similar to delta 9, there is good reason to believe that it has almost identical effects beyond the way in which its psychoactive properties feel.  We can combine this information with the anecdotal reports of many, many HHC users.

Delta 9 THC is known for its effects on mood, physical discomfort, nausea, appetite, digestive function and nervous system function, and many people find that hexahydrocannabinol provides the same properties.  However, as we cannot confirm any of this using scientific methods, we have to use the disclaimer that each person’s experience with HHC may be unique.

Is HHC a Legal Cannabinoid?

Hexahydrocannabinol is protected under federal law thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill.  This legislation made all hemp derivatives legal in the United States as long as they’re tested to show that they contain no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC.  Again, even though there are some similarities with HHC and delta 9, these two cannabinoids aren’t the same, and therefore HHC is legal.

State laws are a bit more complicated.  States can ban certain cannabinoids if they so choose, overriding what the Farm Bill says.  And, a few states have banned intoxicating compounds in recent years, following the fast-growing popularity of delta 8 THC.  While no states have explicitly banned HHC, the wording in their laws gives us good reason to believe that HHC is considered legal.

Where Can I Find HHC?

Hexahydrocannabinol is easier to find than ever before thanks to its rapid popularity.  Today, you can find HHC gummies, vapes, and more from the most trusted manufacturers in the hemp industry.

If you want to secure the finest hexahydrocannabinol, we strongly recommend go with an online retailer over one in your local area.  The bottom line is that local stores that don’t specialize in hemp products rarely lack the knowledge that ensures strict quality standards, which is why there is so much low-quality hemp floating around on the market.  With HHC being so new, the average storeowner is even less likely to be able to ensure that they’re carrying premium hexahydrocannabinol.

Another thing is to make sure that the online store you’re buying from carries HHC that has been properly tested by a third-party lab.  Look for lab reports, which prove that a manufacturer has their HHC analyzed for quality and purity by a state-authorized laboratory.

One of our favorite HHC products is the HHC Disposable Vape, which offers an incredibly user-friendly way to experience the cannabinoid.  This all-in-one vape device can be vaped right out of the box, and never needs to be charged or refilled.  It comes in a great selection of strains as well, allowing the user to choose the effects they desire.
